Shutters and exterior items

Know the shutter type, hardware location, installation time, association rules, and which openings are included. Photograph completed work. Move furniture, planters, umbrellas, grills, décor, and loose equipment to an approved protected location well before winds arrive.

Power, generators, and surge risk

Service permanent generators according to the manufacturer's requirements and arrange a safe response if they alarm or fail. Confirm which circuits are supported and avoid assuming every appliance can run at once. Portable generators must never be operated inside a home, garage, lanai enclosure, or other unsafe location.

Refrigeration and the longer outage

  • ✓

Remove perishables before a likely extended outage when practical.

  • ✓

Use appliance thermometers and decide who will inspect after power returns.

  • ✓

Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed during a short outage.

  • ✓

Plan for ice, leakage, odor, and disposal if the outage lasts longer.

  • ✓

Confirm that the A/C, security, internet, and leak monitoring restart normally after power is restored.
