Stabilize first
Confirm whether water is active, where it appears to be coming from, whether electricity is involved, and whether entry is safe. If authorized and appropriate, shut off the relevant supply or the main valve. Call emergency services when there is an immediate safety risk.

Coordinate the right sequence
A plumber may stop the leak, a mitigation company may remove water and dry materials, and another contractor may rebuild. The owner or local representative should keep scopes, estimates, access, photographs, and insurer communications organized so that one trade does not cover evidence or begin work that conflicts with the next step.
After completion, verify that the source was repaired, moisture conditions returned toward normal, finishes were restored, and the home remains secure. A final invoice alone does not answer all four questions.
